What is NPA?

We are recognized by the medical community as the leading pathology laboratory in the area. Our Pathologists are board-certified, and highly trained, in many areas of medicine. Because of this expertise, we have been chosen by your doctor to provide accurate and timely diagnoses on your biopsy.


Why did I get a bill from NPA?

Your doctor selected NPA, on the basis of our expertise, to diagnose your tissue sample, or biopsy. This biopsy was obtained from you while you were a patient at your doctor's office, a surgery center, or Naples Community Hospital.

If you were a patient at Naples Community Hospital, there are two charges that apply to each specimen. #1) DSI laboratories does the preparation and processing of your specimens (technical component) and bills for it. #2) NPA makes the diagnosis (the professional component) and bills for this component only.


Why doesn't my insurance cover the cost for this service?

While we cannot answer this question without specific information regarding your insurance carrier and specific plan-some common reasons are listed below:

  • The procedure billed may not be a covered service according to your policy guidelines.
  • The procedure billed may have been applied to your deductible.
  • You may have a co-payment for this procedure.
  • Your insurance information was not provided or was incorrect.

What did the Pathologist do for me?

The Pathologist is a physician (M.D.) with at least five additional years of specialization in the diagnosis of disease by microscopic and laboratory analysis. Your doctor asked Naples Pathology Associates to analyze your tissue and submit a written report indicating the exact nature of any abnormalities found.


If the tissue samples were collected by my doctor why did I get a separate bill from NPA?

Your Doctor gave you a bill for his/her services. Your Doctor additionally took tissue samples and you received a separate bill from NPA for us to interpret and diagnose your tissue samples.
